Jamal

Jamal stood in the middle of a blank little stage, smiling his biggest square smile. His long hair bounced as he lifted both arms high, ready to wave to anyone who might be watching. Jamal loved being cheerful, but today he had a tiny worry. The stage felt very plain, and he wondered if his hello would be exciting enough.

Just then, Jamal noticed a small line on the floor like a path waiting to be followed. He got a bright idea. He could turn the plain stage into a pretend adventure! First, he waved one arm like a bird. Then he pointed the other arm like a captain. He took a few straight-leg steps and imagined the empty space was a hill, a bridge, and a treasure island all at once.

As Jamal played, his smile grew even bigger. The blank stage did not stay plain for long in his imagination. It became a place full of fun.
